On this square is the Théâtre des Célestins. Built at the end of the 18th century on the grounds of the former Célestins convent, this theatre was inaugurated in 1792. Destroyed by a fire in 1871, it was rebuilt by Gaspard André who, after a second fire in 1880-1881, rebuilt it in the Italian style.
