“Vana” translates as “bathtub” in English. Yet there’s no need to speak Czech to understand Benedikt Tolar's work: come closer and you'll see that this is what the artist-sculptor has chosen to build his impressive totem pole! Thirty-two bathtubs, symbols of the housing and pre-fab panel buildings of the socialist era that the artist remembers well, make up this strange column that comes to life after dark, when the various parts joyfully light up and the music starts... With this giant sculpture, Benedikt Tolar raises the issue of water as a precious resource and the principle of upcycling, by turning these obsolete bathtubs into a star attraction!
