This year, the Lumignons du Coeur light installation will be occupying the Place de la République where the silhouettes of buildings rise up like shadow puppets. 5,000 candles gently flicker on the sills of 1,200 windows, whilst the square, lit up in blue, takes visitors back to Lyon in the 1900s, with the fountain reflecting the images created by a central tree of mirrors. Floating candles echo the lights at the windows. Between the modules, which are a perfect copy of the facades of the banks of the Saône and Rhône rivers, spectators walk through a theatre of glowing shadows. Visitors can contribute by buying candles from the on-site volunteers.
In 2019, proceeds from the sale of candles will be going to the non-profit APF France handicap. You can contribute to this collective act of generosity by buying candles for €2 from the Festival of Lights information points, the Tourist Office or from the many booths and shops in the city centre.
