The City of Lyon is working on the organisation of the Fête des Lumières during the whole year. At the height of the manifestation; it mobilizes more than 1 500 persons which ensure that the operations work smoothly.
The “Fête des Lumières” committee is part of the city of Lyon’s events and activities department. This committees is collaborating all year long with many departments of the City of Lyon (Public Lighting, Public Relations, Economy Commerce and Crafts, Safety and Prevention,) as well as with the Rhône Prefecture, the Greater Lyon, the emergency services, the Rhône-Alpes Region, the Greater Lyon Tourist Office…
A year-long schedule
The City of Lyon works all year-long on the artistic programmation of the Fête des Lumières.
The selection of the projects
Tanders for professional artists are launched in march for the major sites of the Festival (Place Bellecour, Parc de la Tête d’Or, Place des Terreaux,…). Every year, the team studies between 300 to 400 application and only 12 are selected at the end.
In the different district of Lyon, the call for ideas is open for everyone in order to illuminate the place and the building in the heart of the city’s neighbourhood. It is an opportunity for the community-based initiatives to express themselves. In 2013, more than 600 structures were consulted, 100 projects were studied and 60 were selected.
Le Club des partenaires
The Partners Club set up in 2002 which now has over 60 companies involved representing 50% of the overall budget for the Festival. Its main objectives is to facilitate the exchange between the member-company and the economics, artistic, cultural and institutional actors, associated with the Fête des Lumières in a local, national and international scale.
