The Parc Blandan is very popular with locals, who enjoy its 17 hectares of green spaces, comprising garden terraces, nature areas, sports fields, a skatepark and atypical playgrounds (such as the Vague des Remparts). This former military site has been converted into a green haven where the heritage, identity and legacy of the site are revealed and enhanced, with the added bonus of a 1,300m² skatepark.
The military heritage of the Parc Blandan dates back to the middle of the 19th century and comprises a network of fortifications and a dozen buildings, including the old barracks (which at 230 metres long was one of the longest masonry structures in Europe at the time of construction), and the gunpowder depot. Alongside the Château Lamotte, a listed monument, these heritage buildings form the esplanade.
